I have been spending a lot of time in the kitchen preparing myself for my sustainable future. As I stated in a previous post (http://alessandrabenton.com/total-sustainability/), my wish is to make everything from what has been grown or raised on the reserve, even things like flour where possible.
This has been a bit of a ‘gap year’ as I ready myself to study Game Ranch Management from the Xhosa I’ve been studying. Recently, I’ve had more time on my hands and since realizing my purpose in life, I have started to teach myself some things.
Studying and reading about different energy sources and ways to re-use items that may normally be thrown out, is my newest endeavor. I have also made all sorts of items, from chocolate and jam to quiches and graham crackers, all from scratch. I’ve even started to grow herbs and vegetables on my windowsill. This ‘down time’ is enabling me to gather quite a bit of information and experience to make my dream of total sustainability a reality.
There shall be some intermittent posts with recipes, that I have tried and tested, to let you all enjoy the feeling of making something from scratch and also to ease the burden on your pocket.
